We love our 3 year old!

Colton has reached a new milestone...he's turned 3! It's so hard for us to believe he's three, since his birth and first few days still seem so fresh in our minds.
We just love this little guy. Colton is a sweet boy with such a joyful spirit. Everyday he surprises us with endearing comments, thoughtful actions, and pure silliness. He is determined, loves his family, and enjoys just about any activity we do together. He's developed such a silly sense of humor that just cracks us up. He's either embracing his sister or knocking her down out of frustration. For the most part he is kind to her, but we're certainly starting to see some minor 'fighting' between these two!
We got him a little mini indoor jumper/trampoline for his birthday and he loves it! He gets on it and jumps like its his job. When he saw it the morning of his birthday he turned around and ran and gave us big hugs before jumping on it! He and daddy have come up with some fun games to play with it.
We celebrated Colton's birthday two days early with a party at a bounce house place. He had such a blast and we invited a variety of friends to join us. He loved every bit of his party, except when we sang happy birthday to him. At that point he cried and hid in his daddy's shirt. It was a vivid recap of his reaction from his 2nd birthday party!
David and I were in California on vacation for Colton's actual party, but Nana stepped up to the plate and took cookies and read a story to his children's day out class. Colton loved it. He really enjoys going to school and always wants to know when he gets to go back.
Ready for his first day of school!

Colton, as a 3 year old:
* You are fully potty trained - hooray! After doing great all summer you'd reverted and were having trouble going number 2 on the potty, but NOW you are doing an amazing job and even going by yourself almost every morning before we let you out of your room!
* You are opening up and becoming more social...we think school, bible study, visiting 20 different churches over the past several months all have helped you become a little less reserved. Although, we really try to embrace the fact that you are shy...we're ok with that!
* You have started making some friends here that you talk about, ...'the boys' (they live a couple of houses down and are so sweet to our kids), Roman, & Abby from school (no worries Mia - you are still the number one girl in his life), and lots of other kids we do playdates with.

Colton and Roman at Taco Villa - yum!
Colton and the boys!
Sweet Mia, who we'd love to see weekly, but we'll settle for every couple of months. They still love each other and have such a sweet, unique friendship!
* You are becoming quite the daredevil. You aren't scared of many things...you recently rode a live pony, rode a mechanical bull (that didn't go so well), rode all kinds of rides and little roller coasters at a fair with nana and pops, and you love jumping off of things in our house.

Riding a four wheeler at Ford and Janey's house in Dallas...this was right before he accidentally ran Ford over.

* You love to check on people. If you ever see mommy cry you always want to make sure I"m ok. You ask "Mommy are you all better now?", "you ok mommy...you sad mommy?" and he gives sweet hugs and kisses. Lately if I've just disciplined you, you ask "are you happy mommy?" You also like to let me know when Sadie is happy while she's riding next to you in the car.
Supporting daddy's Baylor Bears!
* You are still a big momma's boy, BUT you absolutely love your daddy. You love seeing him off in the mornings when he leaves for work and you get so excited for him to come home so y'all can play, wrestle, and just be silly together.
*You love adventures and going just about anywhere, but your favorite places are chic-fil-a, school, church, bible study, the children's museum, parks, the library, the lakehouse, Dallas.

Fun at the children's museum
Fun with Mia at Aunt Heather's lakehouse
Fun riding a choo-choo with Sadie
*You love when family and friends come to visit. You get so excited when our guest room is occupied. Nana and Pops recently came and stayed for 2 1/2 weeks - we all loved their long visit!!! And, since we've moved we've had many fun friends come for a few nights - Linde, Kamara and Aubrey, the Matthew's family, Great Grandma, Cici and Big Daddy, Heather and Hannah, and Nana and Pops many times
* You love dancing to music. You enjoy dance parties almost everyday. And thanks to Cici and Big Daddy you now have a super cool disco ball to dance around!
*In addition to dancing, you love to sing...lately you sing 'I just can't wait to be King' from Lion King. You also love 'Deep and Wide', 'This little light of mine' and 'Heigh Ho' (from Snow White)

*You respond really well to routine. You always want to know what we're going to do when we wake up or what we're going to do next in our day. You love repeating our schedule when I tell you what we'll be doing. I'll hear you in the car saying "go home, take a nap, wake up, go to the park, eat dinner,..."
* You help take care of Sadie. You love to play games with her, share food with her (sometimes), and if she's sad you're always there to kiss and hug her. So sweet. You really like to grab her hand and pull her along, but that usually doesn't end up well since she moves slow.
* You still wake up VERY EARLY (maybe I'll stop writing those words when you're a teenager!) We keep you 'locked' up with a babygate in your doorway and ask you to stay quiet if the house is still dark and quiet. One morning we came to let you out and we cracked up when you came around the corner with a big bird winter hat on your head. So, we think you get pretty bored in the room by yourself, but you've got plenty of toys and books to keep you busy.

You like to sleep on the floor in your room, typically on the pallet we've made for you. But one day I found you passed out on the carpet.
* You weighed 33 1/2 pounds and were 38 inches tall at your 3 year check-up. Both were about the 60-70 percentile. You had to get two shots and initially cried, but handled it so well! I was very impressed! Since you were such a big boy you earned a piece of gum.
* You are VERY excited about wearing your Superman costume for Halloween. You are really into superheroes and often tell me we need to call superman on the phone so he can come get the scary man that jogged by. We talk about how we're not sure if the person is really scary or not, so let's think the best of people.

Superman and Supergirl, all ready for trick or treating
* You love to run up to me and whisper that a mean guy is coming. You want us to all go and hide - usually under the dining room table - from the mean guy. Most of the time the mean guy is 'Hopper' from Bugs Life.

*You love to play duck, duck goose, red rover, any board game we have, - basically anything that makes me sit down and pay attention to you. :)

*You have a very strong will at times and prefer to do things at your own speed. We talk a LOT about listening and obeying the first time.

* You love to do things just to see if Sadie will mimic you, which she does most of the time.
Opening birthday presents
* You love being outside, going to parks, taking morning walks, running the hills at the park in our neighborhood (I do believe these are the ONLY hills in our town),
* You get excited when I ask if you want to skype with Mia or Nana and Pops or Hannah, but you dash out of the room as soon as we see them.
* You love any opportunity to see your cousins - Cooper, Layla, and Hannah.
*You're getting a little better at trying out new foods. :) Sometimes you are extremely picky, other times you completely surprise us. Here you are showing us broccoli that you're about to eat.
*Some fun firsts you've recently experienced....first movie, first day of school, first turtle spotting on our morning walk, first ice cream purchased from an ice cream truck, first playtime in the rain in a long time

Colton Bear we sure do love you. You enrich our lives in many ways. We thank God for you often and are so blessed that he decided to let us raise such a sweet, wonderful little guy. We can't wait to see what God has in store for your life. We love you always!
